Dragon Moray Eel
The dragon moray eel, more commonly known as the leopard moray, is undoubtedly
one of the more eye-catching members of the moray eel species. The dragon moray
features a multicolor skin that incorporates white, orange, and black. This type
of eel takes on more devilish appearance thanks to its horns and protruding
nostrils.
The dragon moray population is known to be saturated in the North-west pacific,
where the warm waters cater to its needs. The eel, like many in the moray
species, houses itself in coral reefs and miniature crevices. Dragon morays live
in both shallow and deep waters. The dragon moray’s diet consists of both octopi
and small fish. They typically hunt prey at night using not their eyes, but
rather their keen sense of smell.
Once the moray spots pray, it is easily able to capture it using its razor sharp
teeth. While many moray species are available for purchase, the dragon moray is
typically not one of them. Dragon morays are very hard to come across
considering their very peculiar characteristics. They enjoy being secluded and
housed in dark environments.
If you happen to notice one up for sale at your pet store, don’t be surprised to
find that it can cost you in the thousands. Even if you manage to purchase a
dragon moray, you will likely find its aggressive attitude displeasing (given
the fact it doesn’t mind eating its aquarium mates). Although the dragon moray
eel does appear threatening, it is rather harmless. People should take care not
to irritate it shall they see it in the water.
