Fimbriated Moray Eel
The Fimbrated moray eel, or the “Gymnothorax fimbriatus” is an eel that is native to the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It is usually found in waters that are deeper than 45m. It likes to hide in harbors and underwater caves, where I can feel safe from predators.
It is a greeny yellow color with some black specks on it’s face. It varies
in length, but it can grow to about 80cm. It has a long snout with some pretty
sharp teeth. Since it can grow quite large, it would be best to acquire one of
these eels only if you have a tank that is larger that 150 liters. You have to
be careful about some of the other species of fish that are also in your
aquarium, as this eel might eat them. This eel also likes some coral reef in
their tank for a place to build shelter.
Like most other Moray eels, it feeds on small crustaceans and small fish. It
would be best to feed this eel live fish and shrimp from your pet store, but if
you are in a bind, this eel will eat normal cocktail shrimp from your local
grocery store. This eel is a little more high maintenance than other species of
eel that are compatible with your aquarium, so if you are a beginner, I would
steer clear of this species. If you do have some experience, though, this would
be a great eel to have in your aquarium.
