Moray Eel Diet
Moray Eels look very different than other sea creatures, but their diet habits
are pretty similar. Morays are predators. They eat other sea animals. Some of
the most common foods to feed your moray eel are smaller fish or shrimp.
This is very similar to what your moray eel would eat in their natural habitat.
It is quite interesting to know that even though moray eels have eyes that look
very sharp, they are almost totally blind. For them to find their food, they
have to use their highly developed sense of smell. That’s why some smaller fish
will wrap themselves around other sea plants so eels cannot pick up their scent
and eat them.
You can feed your Moray Eel cocktail shrimp from the grocery store. It is nice
every once in a while to go to your local pet store and pick up a few live
shrimp for your eel to catch and eat itself. You can also pick up very small
live fish from a pet store to feed your Moray eel as well. Moray eels can go
for up to 3 months with out eating anything. Moray eels go through cyclical
eating patterns. They will eat regularly for a while, then not eat anything for
a couple of weeks.
This is completely normal. You should not get worried. Just make sure your tank
conditions stay consistent and you should be ok. If you have any other small
fish in your aquarium, you should be hesitant to put other small sea creatures
in there. Chances are, your eel will eat them.
