Zebra Moray Eel
Could you imagine a zebra submerged in water? Probably not, but it seems
that that’s where the zebra moray eel receives its inspiration. The zebra
moray eel, like its distant counterpart in the animal kingdom,
incorporates alternating black and white stripes. These stripes are just
one of the things that distinguish it from other eels in the moray
species. The zebra moray is one of the less aggressive eels that can be
found in the ocean.
It doesn’t enjoy interacting with other ocean-going creatures and
spends most of its time secluded in the dark. The zebra moray is closely
related with the snowflake moray and thus the two share a lot of features
As most eels, the zebra moray feeds off a variety of small fish and raw
meats. Its teeth, which are far more dull than those of similar eels, are
designed to crush the outer shells of smaller oceanic creatures. Although
dull, care should be taken to avoid getting bitten by a zebra moray.
Zebra moray’s have very powerful bites that can be quite difficult to
escape from. In terms of size, zebra morays rarely exceed three feet in
length. This size seems to fit them well given their very shy nature.
These types of eels can be found in both the Indian and Pacific oceans.
They spend most of their day lounging in coral reefs waiting for prey to
swim by. When night falls, they go into predator mode and attack just
about any small creature which may swim by.
